Green Lantern - Kyle Raynor

This sketch is the first of 2 that I will be posting by Jason Armstrong. Both sketches are in my Teen Titans sketchbook. The first is Kyle Raynor who as Green Lantern had a short stint with the Titans under Arsenal. Jason did this sketch for me in Toronto earlier this year. Jason has worked on books for Image and Darkhorse including the Hellboy spin off Lobster Johnson and his creator owned Ferro City among others. Both books have been collected in trade paper back. Jason does not appear to have a website but I was able to locate an interview with him at Comics Bulletin regarding the Lobster Johnson series.

More from Agnes

I love this sketch. Penelope Pitstop was done by Agnes Garbowska in Chicago this year. Agnes' art has always caught my eye at different cons and I was glad to finally get her to do something for my HB Town blog. She did this sketch at the same convention as the Starfire and i love them both.

Starfire

This latest sketch is a new Starfire sketch by Agnes Garbowska. Agnes did this sketch for me in Chicago this year. Agnes can draw just about any super hero or anything else for that matter and make it extremely cute. I also picked up some small Batman and Wonder Woman charms that she made, both of which can be see on her website.

Cyborg Heads Up!

Well it only seems right to follow a Cyborg sketch wit hanother Cyborg sketch. This sketch of Cyborg was done by Jay Brant of Heads Up Studios. I figure the name of the studio combined with the actual sketch explains quite a bit. Jay can be found on his website.

Cyborg - Marcio Takara

Our latest sketch is Cyborg by artist Marcio Takara. Marcio did this at a Toronto Convention last year. Marcio has since done an incredible Hong Kong Phooey for me which I will post up here at a later date. More of Marcio's work can be found on his website.

The Mid-Nite Hour

This latest post is by our old friend writer B. Clay Moore. While Clay is best known as the writer of Hawaiian Dick at Image Comics, The Mid-Nite Hour is another of his creations. The character appeared in the Image Comics mini series "Battle Hymn," a short story in the Image Comics Christmas Special from 2005 (I think that was the year) and hopefully will make another appearance in the near future!

Iron Man

Today is the second sketch from Jonboy Meyers, also done in Chicago 2005. You will notice it was also done on the same Werewolf by Night card as the Wolverine sketch..

Jonboy Meyers Week

This week I will be posting a few sketches done by Jonboy Meyers. Jonboy is not new to my blog as he was the subject of my very first post with his Raven sketch. This sketch is obviously Wolverine and this sketch was done in Chicago in 2005. The sketch is actually on a large card showing Jonboy's Werewolf by Night art for the VS card game system. If you look you can see that it also shows the address for Jonboy's website where you can also see more of his work. This site is also linked under "Other Restaurants" on this blog as "Jon Boy's Fine Dining."

The Original Dove

This latest sketch which is of the original Dove was done by Robbi Rodriguez. This sketch is in my Teen Titans sketchbook and was done by Robbi a couple of years ago in Chicago. Robbi was the penciller on Hero Camp and Hazed from Image, as well as the book Maintenance from Oni Press.

The Tiger Force Invasion

Can't say I am a huge fan of skrulls, or of what looks to be a massive retcon of Marvel's history, so needless to say when I got a hold of a sketch cover for Secret Invasion #1 I was definitely putting a DC character on the cover. I figure the only way that Secret Invasion could actually interest me would be if Darkseid and his minions from Apocalypse were doing the invading... so Darkseid it was. As for the artist, well if your going to get a sketch of a Kirby's Darkseid then the obvious choice is Mike Cho! Mike very graciously did this sketch for me last weekend in Toronto despite the fact that I was asking him to sketch on very poor paper. Sorry Mike... but you do rock!! As always check out Mike's blog for more of his outstanding work!!! Thanks Mike!!

Donna Troy aka Wonder Girl

This is my last Wonder Girl sketch (as of right now) it was done by Craig Yeung of Bright Anvil Studios. Craig was the inker on Marvel's Runaways book up until about 8 months ago (I think.) He did this for me in Toronto in 2005.

A little more Wonder Girl!!

Finally a new post... I know that is what both of my viewers are thinking. This sketch is Wonder Girl as done by J. Bone. J. Bone is an outstanding artist who has worked for a few different companies, including Oni and DC. He is currently the cover artist for the Johnny DC book, DC Super Friends and was the inker on the fantastic book The Spirit with Darwyn Cooke. He did this sketch for me at a very small show in Toronto about two years ago.

Wonder Girl!!

OK a quick post today as I have felt awful for getting behind...

This Wonder Girl sketch is by current Birds of Prey penciller Nicola Scott. Ms. Scott is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met and she is a complete Wonder Woman fan. Hopefully one day she can reunite with Gail Simone on that book. Ms. Scott did this sketch for me in Toronto in April of 2006.

Rising Star(fire)

This Starfire sketch is based on the animated series Starfire and was drawn by Canadian superstar in the making Ramon Perez. Ramon has a long running online comic strip called Butternut Squash. BNS is easily my favorite online strip today. He is also a regular contributor to Transmission X, the home to several online strips including Ramon's Kukuburi.
Ramon has a 3 issue run in DC's "JSA Classified" starting this month written by B. Clay Moore (Hawaiian Dick, 76) starring Wildcat. With any luck this run will open people's eyes to the talent that Ramon possesses and leads to more work for DC. In addition to his web strip sites Ramon can also be found on his blog.

Matt Wagner's Grendel

This sketch of Grendel by Matt Wagner was done inside the front cover of my "Devil by the Deed" hardcover. I will never stop wondering why there was a line up in Toronto for a semi-well known artist who puts out a book once in a blue moon, while Matt Wagner... THE Matt Wagner had one person at his table. Now as shocked as I was, I was pretty happy not to have to wait in line. Matt graciously did this sketch without even being asked. My suggestion to everyone out there... buy hardcovers!!! Between Matt and Ethan Van Sciver I have gotten 2 of my favorite sketches without even asking for them, just because I had the hardcovers. Grendel has been a favorite of mine for years, particularily Hunter Rose (as shown in the sketch) and Grendel Prime. Having the sketch inside the front cover with Matt's autograph, easily makes this one of my prized possetions. To learn more about Matt Wagner's books check out his website.

Quick but Legen... wait for it... dary!!!

While this was an extremely quick sketch, it was still done by one of my long time favorites, Mike Grell. Mike did this sketch for me a long time ago... 99 0r 2000, not sure which. It was definitely at Wizardworld in Chicago though. As much as I would have loved something more from Mike, the fact is it was incredibly good fortune that I even got this one. At the time that I found Mike Grell in artist alley he was completely booked up for sketches... and yes I found him on the Saturday and Sunday was already full too. Mike though was very gracious and offered to do a very quick sketch for me. I can't say how much I appreciated the gesture, and how much I still do as I have not seen him at a convention since that time. If I ever get the chance I will gladly upgrade to a bigger sketch but if I never get that opportunity, I will still have this one and I am good with that. If you want to see more of his work you can find Mike on his website.

Speedy

Love this Speedy sketch. Done in Toronto in 2005 or 2006 for my Titans sketch book. I believe the artist was Mike Delmundo of Bright Anvils Studios, although I could be wrong. Definitely a Bright Anvil artist though. If anyone knows for sure... feel free to drop me a line.

Finally getting to my first post of 2008

I haven't had many sketches done of villains in my Teen Titans sketch book but this is one exception. Wildebeest was sketched (painted) by Zen artist Andy Lee at Wizard World Chicago in 2006. I love to watch artists work, it probably has something to do with the fact that I have such minimal artistic ability, Andy though is probably the most fun to watch. Andy is always covered in paint and ink while he works, and I mean covered. His hands, shirt, even his face always carry as much ink as the page does. You can find more of Andy's work on his website.
